Mark L. Norton, 45, was arrested in Stanwood on Tuesday.
Police say he groomed a young girl for sex, and then forced her into sex work. Norton appeared in court Wednesday on charges of trafficking and second-degree rape, but was released from jail pending charges near 5 p.
Wednesday, according to jail records. Norton was the superintendent of security at King County Metro, but had been promoted just last week to Metro's interim director of facilities.
In a statement, Metro said it is conducting an administrative investigation into the matter, and had placed Norton on unpaid leave. His recent promotion was revoked.
Norton ran for the Edmonds school board inbut lost in the August primary to District 3 board member Gary Noble. According to the sheriff's office, Norton began grooming the girl in when she was His victim was a cadet and eventually became Norton's babysitter. He later sold the girl for sex on Craigslist.
Eventually the suspect operated as a pimp and pressured the victim to engage in prostitution on numerous occasions throughout Seattle, Lynnwood and Everett. On Jan.
